Uganda’s Murchison falls national park – Uganda gorilla safari news

elephant-ugandaIn the north-western part of Uganda, at the crown of the Albertine Rift Valley sits Uganda’s largest National Park “Murchison Falls National Park”. First gazetted as a game reserve (1926), and later promoted to a National park in 1952, Murchison Falls National Park, despite being one of Uganda’s oldest National Parks, does not seem to lose her popularity and beauty. Like wine, Murchison gets sweeter and more attractive with the day, a reason why it remains one of the most desired of Uganda Safari and Tours destinations.
On a vast expanse of approximately 3,840 square kilometers, the park provides lodging to at least 76 mammalian species and over 451 species of birds which actually occur in huge population densities. This park will have you questioning whether there is anything else to see in the other savanna national parks of Africa. Murchison is one of Uganda’s bulky National Parks and travelers on Tours and Safaris to Uganda will have enough sightings of most of the park’s species available in the park.
The bigger percentage of coveted wildlife permanently settles here including four of the big five; which are the famous emperors of the jungle (the Lions), many heavy bodied Elephants, the solitary Leopards which are sometimes sighted as the sun leaves to rest; and compacted herds of Cape buffalo. Her many ecosystems also provide refuge, hiding spots, relaxation and dining areas for many more fauna species like the modest Uganda Kobs, Jackson’s hartebeest, the Rothschild’s Giraffes (which are only found here, in Kidepo and Lake Mburo National Park); the bushbucks and many humorous primates like the blue and red-tailed monkeys, chimpanzees and the notorious olive baboons which will lure you towards making some clicks with your camera.
The park’s waters also provide permanent residence to aquatic animals like the crocodiles which actually occur in numbers greater than those seen in other parts of the country; and the massive hippopotamuses.
Murchison is a popular destination for Uganda birding Safaris presenting birds of all sizes like the rare Shoe-bill Stork, the large wading goliath heron, black-billed barbets and the African jacana. The birds paint Murchison in so many colours; and some of these colours should be added to the rainbow.
The waterfalls, after which the park is named is a “must-see, must-feel, and must-hear” attraction before anyone leaves Murchison Falls National Park. The bravura Murchison Waterfalls are a beautiful piece of art which is formed by the teamed efforts of the world’s longest river, the Nile and part of rift valley escarpment. The might with which the waters of the Nile plunge over the rift valley wall is indescribable, and the graceful manner in which the waters flow in continuation after plunging is very relaxing.
Murchison’s beauty has inspired many works of art including the 1951 film "The African Queen" starring Humphrey Bogart which was filmed on Lake Albert and the Nile River in Murchison Falls National Park. Mountain Gorilla Behavior,Diet,Threats and Predators
