Using culture to boost tourism in Uganda.- Prime Uganda Safaris & Tours updates


Culture has greatly increased Uganda safaris in the country due to the presence of diverse cultures in Uganda that can be explored by the tourists who come for tour visits to Uganda. Therefore, with community empowerment and aggressive marketing, cultural tourism will contribute immensely to the growth of Uganda’s tourism sector.
zdffffgdIn recent years, tourism has become a notable contributor to Uganda’s economy in terms of foreign exchange and investment and this has been attributed to the increasing safaris to Uganda. The sector’s fast growth revealed in a report released, therefore, not surprising. Our challenge as a country is to take full advantage of this growth and enhance it.
The 2012 study carried out by the Ministry of Tourism in partnership with the World Bank and Department for International Development indicates encouraging developments. The survey shows that while Uganda attracted 946,000 tourists in 2010, the numbers increased to 1.1 million in 2011 and 1.2 million last year. This increase has helped in developing the tourism sector in Uganda.
luoDue to the increase in safaris, the study also reveals key details: 32 per cent of foreign visitors and tourists came to Uganda for business reasons, 11 per cent for conference, 17 per cent for leisure, 20 per cent to visit friends and family, five per cent for spiritual/ religious purposes, and two per cent for cultural tourism.
Culture is an important element in Uganda’s tourism and it has attracted many people to come for safaris in Uganda. This has been added to gorilla trekking safaris which are carried out in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Chimpanzee trekking safaris in Kibale National Park, game viewing in many other National Parks, Boat cruises which are carried out on Uganda’s water bodies and many other activities.
Efforts to market Uganda’s tourism potential is in place. It is, however, crucial that more attention is given to our amazing cultural variety through community tourism.
